Migrating From Original to PLUS

If you already use the original version of The Happy Kitchen, you may have custom recipes and grocery items that you wish to migrate to The Happy Kitchen PLUS version. There is some manual setup involved to migrate things over. This guide was designed to walk you through the process in stages. Please read before attempting migration.

Create a Backup #

I strongly recommend creating a backup version of the original Happy Kitchen system before attempting any migration. This will maintain a copy for historical reference and ensure that you are able to resume use of the original version of The Happy Kitchen if you ever choose to do so.

  1. Locate The Happy Kitchen (original version) in your Notion sidebar
  2. Click the ellipsis (three dots) next to the name
  3. Select “Duplicate”

Wait a moment while the system creates a copy. This may take a minute or two. Once complete, move the duplicate to a safe place.

Migrating Grocery Items #

During your time using The Happy Kitchen original version, you may have added new categories or subcategories to the Grocery Items database. If so, you will need to manually add those categories and subcategories to the new system to match your existing structure.

  1. Add any custom categories or subcategories to the new Happy Kitchen PLUS Grocery Items database to match your existing structure
  2. Select the ellipsis (three dots) next to each grocery item in the original database that you wish to migrate
  3. Choose Move To → New database name (“PLUS.Grocery Items“)
    • The highlighted items will be moved from the old database to the new database.
Migrating Meals / Recipes #

You may have added new meal types or tags to the Meals database. If so, you will need to manually add those meal types and tags to the new system to match your existing structure.

  1. Add any custom meal types or tags to the new Happy Kitchen PLUS Meals database to match your existing structure
  2. Select the ellipsis next to each meal in the original database that you wish to migrate
  3. Choose Move To → New database name (“PLUS.Meals“)
    • The highlighted items will be moved from the old database to the new database.
  4. Manually re-link recipe ingredients to meals
  5. Optionally add servings, calories, and macro information to the recipe

Here is an optional strategy for migration that you can follow to stay organized:

  1. Navigate to the “Meals / Recipes” database in the original version of The Happy Kitchen
  2. Create a new checkbox property within the Meals database called “Migrate”
  3. Browse through your recipes and select which recipes to migrate by checking the “Migrate” checkbox
  4. Create a filtered list showing only recipes where the “Migrate” checkbox is checked
  5. From this filtered view you can easily select all recipes at once to migrate to the new database
