Force Link Between Two Database Items Automatically

Want to automatically link a new database item to an item in another table? Accomplish this quickly and easily using Notion’s new “Group” feature.

Set up a view that groups by the linked database item. In this example, our “Tasks” table is linked to a “Projects” table. We are grouping our tasks by project. Set the groups to display even when empty.

Now, when we create a new task from within a specific project group, our new task is automatically linked to the project.

Alternatively, you can create multiple filter views for each project to achieve the same result. Any new tasks added from within the filtered view will automatically take on the attributes of the filter.
