Notion has finally rolled out the feature we’ve all been eagerly waiting for: Charts!
You’ve been meticulously managing your life and work in Notion – your projects and tasks, budgets and financials, reading and watching lists, nutrition and fitness goals, and so much more. Notion is an incredible tool for data management… But let’s face it, sometimes rows and rows of data can be tough to make any sense of at a glance. That’s where charts come in. Imagine being able to visualize anything you track in Notion with just a few clicks!
Make Data Beautiful in Just a Few Clicks
Creating and configuring charts in Notion is super easy. With just a couple of clicks, you can turn your data into a comprehensive visual display. These charts fit seamlessly into the spaces you’re already working in inside of Notion.
How to add charts
There are a couple of ways you can add charts to your page or dashboard:
As a database view: Transform your database view into a chart
/chart block: Use the /chart command to add a chart block, drag and drop charts anywhere on your page
Cool features
Multiple Chart Styles: Line, bar, and donut styles are possible now, with more styles on the way*
Color Options: Customize your charts with a variety of colors
Export Graphics: Export your charts as stunning graphics for your reports and presentations
Of course, charts look fantastic in both light and dark mode (but particularly stunning and eye-catching in dark mode, IMO). Swipe the image to see light vs dark^
How I’ve been using charts
I have found ways to enhance just about every system I use with charts! I use them to manage an at-a-glance budget, visualize my spending, track health metrics over time, summarize my reading consumption, and see snapshots of task statuses for my sprints. But here are some other fun and practical ways to use charts to enhance your workflows in Notion:
Weekly Standup: Add an automation button to create a weekly standup report with a pre-configured chart already embedded
Issue/Status Tracking: Visualize task statuses and assignments at a glance
Health Metrics: Track glucose levels, sleep quality, resting heart rate, and weight over time
Order Management: Monitor product order statuses
Student Grade Tracker: Keep tabs on student grades over time
Water Intake Visualization: Keep tabs on your daily hydration levels to make sure you’re meeting your targets
Workout Tracking: View a “heat map” of muscle groups and how often they are targeted by your workouts
Who can use charts?
Everyone! Unlimited charts are included for Plus Plan users. Free Plan users will be able to try out one chart for free in their workspace.
Only the beginning…
Notion is just getting started with charts! Here’s what’s coming down the pipeline in the future:
AI Chart Generation: Generate charts using natural language, or have AI suggest a chart for you
Drill Down: Click on a slice to see the detailed data
Plot Multiple Properties: Compare different data sets on one chart
*Big Number Charts: Display big number metrics, perfect for dashboards
*Burn Down and Time Series Charts: More specialized charts for deeper analysis
BROWSE TEMPLATES INCLUDING PRE-MADE CHARTS
This is without a doubt the most exciting update of the year, and I can’t wait to see how you’ll use charts to make your Notion workspace even more powerful. Happy charting!
